OCTOBER WINNER: George Sales

OCTOBER NOMINATIONS:

James and I would like to nominate George sales.

George is the ref on the inters pitch now getting paid but last season he was the Gladiators linesman all voluntary. George’s commitment is outstanding. He came to help me as a friend and only missed 2 weeks of the whole season and that was due to covid. George is very fair, extremely punctual very polite and a great asset for Sutton little league to have. We feel that recognition is a great way to give our thanks.

This month I would like to nominate Alex Scott.

This is Alex's second year with the Lions and has been playing with SLL for several years. Alex is a consistent and reliable member of the team. As the team manager I have never have to think is he turning up - he does. He is prepared to play any position asked of him  and on many occasion has changed position  as to offer other players a scoring opportunity. He is fully comfortable and capable of playing any position. His main position is a team player. During the Lions pre-season training he has been an important part of the coaching /team, especially by passing his knowledge of tactics on to the new players in the team and undertaking intensive 1 to 1 training. On the pitch his appearance on the pitch in a clean kit which stands out, he respects any decision the referee makes and he is prepared to play the whole game or sub'd when required. As the manager of the Lions I can proudly say Alex has and is player who gives full commitment to the team to the league and to the game of football itself. And it is for all the reasons I have mentioned I would like to nominate  Alex Scott to be considered for this months award.

This month I would like to nominate Jack Howes in the Trojans.

Jack has joined the division this season as a goalkeeper, the toughest position possible, and has performed fantastically. More importantly, his attitude has been superb and he has kept his head up despite being on the receiving end of some heavy defeats.

Thanks

Chris Ford

Vikings Manager

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to nominate Bobby Cork from Dynamos.

Bobby has been a member of little league for years and is well known with the SLL community as a great kid and hard worker. Bobby has been going through some off field challenges that have taken a toll on him but he has managed to show a huge amount of self reflection and grown up attitude to look past the problems and move forward by coming to me and his mum and asking for help, making him a better person. I appreciate that this is not as football related as I'm sure everyone else's nominations, but to have a child of his age experiencing difficulties in their private life but to actively recognise he needs to help and advice and to work on moving forward in life is huge and should be applauded. It should also serve as advice to each and every child that everyone needs help at some point in their life and opening up and talking about things isn't weak or scary. A HUGE WELL-DONE BOBBY FOR BEING BRAVE

Michael Corbett

Dynamos Manager

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rangers nomination for the Jack Petchey award is for Sean Frimpong Nkrumah.

He was part of the team last year but this year he has continued to develop as a player and even as a captain taking on extra responsibility. He demonstrates leadership with his application in training and is a real leader for our team. He takes on board what he is being told and tries to continuously improve his game and leadership skills. He is fully committed to the team and travels to each training session by himself regardless of where we are able to hold it which shows what a truely remarkable team player he is and has even turned up after school in his uniform after finishing extra school work activities.

Florin Matei - Saints

Florin has been a long-standing member of SLL, he is such a pleasure to coach and conveys a great attitude on and off the pitch. He’s had a tough time recently recovering from injury but also an unfortunate dog attack whilst on holiday. It’s hasn’t deterred him at all, gets himself patched up and plays the game in a combative way but with humility and care for opposing players. He is a credit to have in the league and would like to nominate him for the award.

Cheers

Elton

Saints Manager

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My nomination this month is Vishan from Kestrels.

Vish has been with me the past 2 years he’s come through Sutton LL right from the bottom up to Juniors. He struggles with his confidence and  has always been a pleasure to coach both on and off the pitch. Vishan has this year took on our goalkeeper role and with no complaints given 100% every week. He always helps pack away at the end of every training session and always trys to make his team mates laugh when we are at a low. He has stood between the post and given 100% only conceding 6 goals this season doing the job no one wants to do and trys to encourage the team as much as he can. I think with this mentality and attitude makes him a good Jack Petchey nominee.

Joel

Kestrels manager

NOVEMBER WINNER: Max Smith

NOVEMBER NOMINATIONS:

I would like to nominate my son Ollie Chadwick.

We (the Rovers) like most others have been down to the bare bones with a threadbare squad and forced to play players out of position , prior to our match vs the Hornets Ollie injured his back and wasn't likely to feature in the match but he not only played through the pain but scored a goal too then in our match on Saturday vs the Hotspurs Ollie injured his ankle early on but again played on only this time out of position at fullback and did superbly , over the years Ollie has had to play all over the pitch including in goal even though he's small for his age. I'm very harsh on Ollie at times but the last couple of weeks he has stepped up and proven himself to be a good captain and team player and I'm immensely proud of him for his attitude and commitment.

Best regards

Paul Chadwick

Rovers coach

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We would like to nominate Clayton Chan of the Hornets this month.

Clayton joined our team as a late replacement for a player we lost. He had never played in a football team before, but quickly established himself as having the best work ethic in our entire squad. Every single training session he will stay behind afterwards and ask us for pointers on how he can improve his game as an individual. He is one of our main contributors both as an active listener and a participant in our tactical briefings before every match and shows a real dedication to understanding what his role in the team is whenever he is on the pitch.  He gives 110% every match and constantly makes us proud. As an example of his commitment, he asked for 20 minutes of coaching after our scheduled training session to learn how to open his body shape up more which would enable him to play on the left side of the pitch better, despite being right footed.

Despite having a strong season so far the Hornets have been struggling with internal division since what feels like day one and Clayton is one of the few players who always rises above it.  He embodies everything that we are hoping to achieve in terms of team spirit and desire to improve and we think he would be a worthy winner of the award.

In summary, Clayton is an ever present positive force in the team and has become a key part of the team, being a favourite among all and well appreciated and respected by his peers. His desire to improve has pushed others to achieve the same level and been a true mark of the attitude that any coach would wish to see.

Rangers nomination for the Jack Petchey award is for Patrick Lovelock.

He has damaged his knee ligaments and on crutches. He continues to come down every weekend to support and cheer on his team mates even in the rain. He is fully committed to the team and has really set an example for his team mates to follow.

James and I would like to nominate Ryan from the Gladiators.

Ryan has been at the league from the very 1st rascals pitch right up to the seniors. He’s a very committed hardworking and polite boy.

He has attended every training session and match for most of his time at Sutton Little League And is a pleasure to have around as he never moans just gets on with it even when asked to play out of position.

Vicky

Gladiators

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to nominate Luka Neilson.

The Lions as a team have been lucky to have him in the team our team. To see a player who gets stuck in to every game, and does not like being subbed but know its to give all a chance to do their best on the pitch is a credit to him. I'm sure if the was a three hour game he would play.

Luka always turns up to training  from leading motivating to discussing tactics he brings a positive vibe to each session. As said, Luka gets stuck in from the off. Luka can play any position but his strengths are up front or midfield. As many would know he has a good goal scoring record, he shares that with the team. Yes he has had a yellow card, probably too much passion put into the game, but he fully respects the refs decisions. It's for these few reasons and that he has a passion for the team and the game of football it self

I would like Luka to be considered for this award.

Mick

I would like to nominate Max from the Eages for the JP award.

Max has been at SLL for 4 years, never missed a match or training session in that time. Max comes to football with one aim - to score a goal. Even with this being his aim when the Eagles were down a goalie and facing a difficult match, Max stepped up and went in goal and kept a clean sheet. Max has autism and going in goal would mean he was highly unlikely to score a goal, yet he showed what a great team player he is and took on the challenge. But, my main reason for nominating Max, and the Eagles as a team is that on the 29th Oct, after 4 years of trying Max scored his first goal, that’s approx 100 games, each game trying for that goal, and in his dads words ‘its even better that it wasn't just a rebound off the back of his head when he wasn’t looking, he actually aimed and scored’. When Max was in the upfront position any selfishness from the other players was completely forgotten and everyone tried to secure Max his goal. The celebration and support that followed from his fellow team mates, parents and managers was one of the best moments I have experienced in the 7 years I have watched, coached and managed football. That one goal, that to some children is a weekly event, meant the world to Max, his family and the team and had been a long time coming. When his dad posted about it on Facebook the post received over 80 responses from friends and family who all knew what this meant. I am so pleased for Max, and would love SLL to recognise this achievement with a JP award.

Thanks

Ellie

DECEMBER WINNER: Ruby Quintyne

DECEMBER NOMINATIONS:

Rangers nomination for the Jack Petchey award is for Roman Marsh Rangers captain.

He was admitted to hospital recently as he was feeling unwell he ended up being diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes. He missed our 11-1 hammering but he begged his dad to let him play the following week to lead his team. He returned and played out of his skin and we claimed a 1-1 draw. He is fully committed to the team and an inspirational leader. He would fully deserve this reward.

Regards

Colin, Dean and James

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to nominate Ruby Quintyne (Dynamos) this month for the award.

EVERYONE knows Ruby and her family due to her longevity and her brother, Elijah, also playing. Ruby has always been a capable player but has sometimes shyed away as she is hitting that awkward age for girls in football where they have to deal with sexism and stereotyping. In the last 4-6 weeks, Ruby has addressed internal conflicts around some tough situations and has navigated them flawlessly. Footballing wise, she has been a step above 98% of the players, not only in her team but in the league. other managers have approached me and mentioned that she has been 'phenominal' and 'unplayable' at times. She was elevated to team captain and also had the courage to take a penalty in one of our games that at the time was in the balance and scored her first goal for Dynamos.

Outside of footballing ability, as I mentioned, Ruby has shown incredible personal growth over the last month or two and is growing into a wonderful person. She really does deserve the recognition of the other managers in the league and I hope she receives it.

Many thanks

Michael

We would like to nominate Hassan Hamid, Ospreys, Juniors division for Decembers Jack Petchey award.

Hassan has played at SLL all the way up through the Rascals division. This season we’ve had the pleasure of having him in our team and getting to know him. Hassan is an important part of the team and is well liked throughout the squad. Hassan plays football with such a great attitude, he always has a smile on his face and he really enjoys being part of the team. He will encourage his teammates and is the first to put his hand up when we ask the team their opinion on anything football related.

Hassan and his mum live in Croydon and have to rely on getting the bus to matches and training. Despite this they will always be at every match and training session on time. Hassan’s mum speaks very little English but she will be on the side line every week proudly cheering on Hassan and his team.

Hassan truly exemplifies the spirit of Sutton Little League through friendship, representing the diversity of our community and with an emphasis on team spirit and sportsmanship.

Hassan would truly be deserving of the Jack Petchey award.

This month I would like to nominate Mikey Buchanan from the Rangers.

Mikey has one of the most incredible attitudes that I have seen throughout my 6 years coaching at Little League.  He plays with an infectious positively and embodies the spirit of grassroots football, and this has made him a universally liked and respected figure among both players and managers in the Inters division.

Recently, the Rangers took a very heavy defeat.  Despite being a goalkeeper who found himself 6 goals down at half time, Mikey did not drop his head once and did not start taking any frustrations out on his players.  He kept his head up and made the best of it and saw the game out with a smile.  Furthermore, I worked with Mikey during the nationals tournament last summer where despite having a great tournament in goal, Mikey was dropped for the final match to allow more game time for the other keeper in the squad.  He did not complain about this once, and showed no visible signs of frustration at being passed up and instead focused on making sure that our other keeper was confident and calm ahead of such a big occasion.

His constant humility and positive attitude are a credit to his team and anyone who has coached him in the past, and I believe he would make an excellent winner of the award.

Ryan Grant

Hornets Manager

FEBRUARY WINNER: Vishan Sukumar

FEBRUARY NOMINATIONS:

This month I would like to nominate a player in the Lions Team I have nominated before.

He missed out before but was pleased for the player who received the JP award.

For many reasons I would like to nominate Alex Scott for consideration for this months award.

Alex has consistently played his best in any positive and in a professional manner. Always one of the first to arrive training and playing, he embraces the ethos and rules of the leauge and football. Personally I can easily say having Alex in the team is a pleasure he is dependable and reliable if only he could stay another year any team would gladly take him on. On the pitch he can and does play any position asked and at times has asked to cover positions not for the benefit of himself but for the team. So it is for these reasons and probably other I just can't fully think of at present.

Mick

Lions Team Manager

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to nominate Oscar of the Rovers.

Oscar has Autism which can be challenging enough in itself. Unfortunately at the start of the season one of Oscars teammates was not very kind towards him and after a couple of difficult performances his confidence hit rock bottom. Fortunately Oscar has built himself up again and is back to his happy self. Oscar is a joy to coach, a great kid to have around and I think after everything he has overcome, he is very fitting of such an award. Oscar epitomises everything that SLL is all about and I'm proud to have him on my team.

Best regards

Paul Chadwick

Rovers Coach

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rangers nomination for the Jack Petchey award is for Patrick Lovelock.

He strained his knee ligaments and was unable to play for Rangers after the 3rd game but he came down every week except once or twice to cheer on his team mates. He made his come back in our cup game and due to us not having enough players he played the entire match, didn’t ask to come off and gave his all. He is fully committed to Rangers and such a great team mate, he would fully deserve this reward.

Regards

Colin, Dean and James

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to nominate Vishan Sukumar for the JP award this month.

Vishan isn’t as well known across little league but having said that he shows and up holds all the values of little league. This is my second season coaching Vishan. When he first came to me he was very shy and told me he didn’t think he was good enough. Vishan has grown and improved so much. He’s always first to training and last to leave as he helps pack away every week. If he misses a training day he asks me to send him drills to do at home. This season Vishan has stepped up and took on our goal keeper role and has been smashing it making some magnificent saves between the post. He always comes to training and matches with a positive attitude wanted to improve his football even when we are losing he tries to lift the team by making a joke to lift the teams. Each week I try to give him the armband but he says I’m just here to play football. Vishan recently got injured while playing in goal but refused to come off as he didn’t want to let his team down.

I believe for this reason Vishan is a great candidate and would be a worthy winner for the JP award.

Joel Pickett

Kestresl Manager

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This month, I would like to nominate Rangers player and captain, Sonny

Everytime we have played the Rangers, or had the chance to encounter them playing, I have always been impressed by how Sonny plays and conducts himself on and off the pitch. Not only do I personally think he is a great little player technically, the fact I have never seen him without a smile on his face when he plays or heard him saying anything less then positive words, he really sticks out in my mind above the overwhelming majority of players in our league. I have spoken to him directly on a couple of occasions and let him know my thoughts of what I see, that the rest of his team look at him as a real focus and that he really does have the ability to influence his team just by being himself. I've also spoken to his dad and let him know what I think of him as its not often you get credit from outside of your own team and that its important to give recognition wherever possible.

Sonny is a wonderful example of positivity and ability and a credit to the Rangers and his family.

Thanks

Michael

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I’d like to nominate Alex Phillips - The Saints.

Alex has been a member of the league now since the Rascals, he has always been one of the better players in the team/league but you couldn’t wish to meet a nicer more inclusive team member. Alex has always been very supportive of other team members and is a very dedicated member of the team. He is always very competitive in a game but I have never once seen him retaliate or be aggressive towards an opposing team member. He’s a credit to the team and the league and is someone who I believe deserves all the credit for his overall character and approach.

Cheers

MARCH WINNER: Alex Phillips
MARCH NOMINATIONS:

Rangers nomination for the Jack Petchey award is for Mikey Buchanan.

He has been excellent for us as a goal keeper but more importantly a role model for the young players, he isn’t talker but his enthusiasm for football even when we have lost is infectious. He turns up for training every week, arriving early and asks for advice from the coaches. He gets frustrated with himself but doesn’t see how much potential he has. He is fully committed to Rangers and such a great team mate, he would fully deserve this reward.

This month I would like to nominate Alex Phillips of Saints.

I've known Alex from the age of about 7 and I have seen him develop not only in his footballing ability but as an individual. He is always a positive influence on any team lucky enough to have him and always looks to bring his team mates up. He plays with a smile and will never be heard to criticise his fellow team mates, refereeing decisions or anything else. He never shy's away from adversity and always shows a huge amount of respect. That's not just in the last month but over the last 7 years. It's time for him to be recognised for all he has and continues to do for his team and Sutton Little League.

Thanks

I would like to nominate Lee from our team for this month's Jack Petchey award.

Lee came into our team a little after the start of the season and has massively stepped up as a part of our team. He has done brilliantly at adapting to become our keeper after our original one got injured. He always brings a smile and an endless positivity and has bounced back after a tough time personally to keep playing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another month and more difficult choices to make across all the teams there are many players who should be considered for this worthy award it is hard to choose. However, for this month I would like to nominate and put forward Israel Nketiah from the Lions.

This is his first season with our team and has proved himself time and time again. A player not to only wants to play in one position but has covered all positions for the team as and when needed (if we all had more players like Israel).
During pre season training he preferred to play a defensive role, but watching him and playing him in different positions we soon discovered he had better potential in a more forward role. A bit doubting himself at first  but soon he felt more comfortable in an upfront position. During training he has always been one of the first to arrival and has always got stuck in - as too on match days he is always one of the first to arrive. Israel is definitely dependable and reliable, and will play any role required or needed. He is also supportive to the rest of the team. And when he scores he does not really seek credit for himself as he says it is a team goal. As a manager it is good to know you have players that are dependable reliable without a question, and over this season he has proven himself a very good player and asset to the team. So for these few reasons and many more I have not listed I would like Israel Nketiah to be considered for the JP award this month.

APRIL WINNER: Charlie Webb
APRIL NOMINATIONS:

'I would like to once again nominate Oscar of the Rovers.

Oscar has had a hard time this season both on and off the pitch. He was a free scoring centre forward last season in the juniors but the transition hasn't been smooth but Oscar is slowly returning to his happy exuberant self and he's a joy to coach.

Best regards

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rangers nomination for the Jack Petchey award is for Sonny Watson.

He's been exceptional for Rangers this season, he's our vice captain and leads by example at all times. He's developed so much as a player this season and listens to every bit of advice people give him, which is what little league is about; player development and progression. He is fully committed to Rangers and such a great team mate, he would fully deserve this reward.

Regards

Colin, Dean and James

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to nominate Charlie Webb from the Owls for April's award.

Charlie really is the nicest boy who has a fantastic attitude. Unfortunately for much of the season Charlie has been struggling with a lingering virus and has been feeling lethargic which has meant he hasn't been able to play as much sport as he would like. He has been very sensible with dealing with his health, missing training when he needs to and being honest when he cannot play a full game. His approach has meant he has hardly missed a game. In addition to his health, he has played in every position and even though he wants to play upfront has played a lot of games in the back 4 because he understands this is a team game. He always gives 100%, is incredibly polite and is a calming influence on what can be a boisterous bunch!

Thanks

Ben R, Owls.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This month I would like to nominate Kingston Wong.

We try to nominate players for their playing skills, team ability and dedication to the game of football and choosing any play to be nominated can / is always difficult. By his own admission, Kingston is not good at goal keeping but has stepped up and stepped in to cover the gap at short notice. He may not be the strongest player in the team, but I can easily say without a doubt he shows true commitment to the spirt of football by playing and being part of a team. He is delightful player  to watch, always gets stuck in covers many positions, he regularly covers defensive positions and midfield, and in a recent game he scored his first goal of the season. To see any player scoring is great, but to see Kingston scoring a goal from the far left of the box from a midfield position and from a player you would have thought would not have scored, made that goal the goal of the match and definitely a goal of the season. Kingston is always one of the first to arrive and give full effort in training and in games  and is just generally a very good committed player. By his own admission he is not the strongest but a player who gives his all when playing. Kingston is a player that makes a managers life easy (we all know how hard that can be). It has been a pleasure to have Kingston be a part of the Lions team the last 2 years and for just being a naturally descent player team member. I would like to nominate Kingston Wong to be considered for this months award.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to nominate Landon Corbett for this months award.

This will be Landons last month at SLL after 7 very successful and enjoyable years. He is widely known by other teams and managers and while his talent has spoken for itself over the years, what isn’t seen is his commitment to the team and his team mates. He is the first to pick them up after a mistake or injury etc and although he is my son, he is as other managers can attest to, the first to be at training and matches and the last to leave. He is always wanting to stay late at training and work with other players after others have left. He is the glue that holds teams together with his personality and team ethic. On a footballing note, he recently scored his 100th goal at SLL too! A great achievement for anyone. While it may seem bias, I’m sure his other managers and former team mates would be the first to support this nomination.

Thanks
