OCTOBER WINNER: Shayne Townsend

OCTOBER NOMINATIONS:

I would like to nominated Shay from Falcons in Juniors.

Shay has had two very rough years in goals for Cobras, then Falcons last year. Those teams conceded numerous goals over both seasons but he always kept his head up and always tried his best. It’s great to see that he is now on a team that is contesting against every team and he is picking the ball out of the net less. He’s a great kid and has a great attitude to football, showing other kids that if you stick at it, it will come good.

We would like to nominate Dominic from Vikings.

He joined Saints in Inters last season and it was very tough for the team. He continued into Seniors and really plays with passion and energy. Never gives up and he was so happy on the first game of the season because after 15-20 games he finally got his first win in little league. Everytime he plays he plays with a smile on his face and a drive to win which shows what type of character he is.

Thanks

I’d like to nominate Shayne Townsend from Hotspurs.

He’s my Son but that’s not why he’s getting a nomination. Long story short. His younger brother players for my junior team Eagles. He loves playing football. However Shayne has just started and I’ve thrown him straight into my other team Hotspurs at Inters level. He hated the idea of playing football. Theirs a lot to take in with it being 11 a side and rules that are completely alien to him especially with this being his first season. I had a player drop out of the team in the summer so I basically told him he’s playing which he wasn’t best pleased about. I'm super proud with his application and how he’s taken everything on board. He’s definitely not a natural footballer but his effort and camaraderie he’s shown with his team mates has been great to see. He’s found more confidence even around school and just the simple idea of being in a team has really encouraged him socially. He even told me ‘dad some kids are giving me more respect at school now in the footy team’.

He’s been brilliant. And I’m delighted I got him to finally play football and the best part is I think he’s chuffed too.

I would like to nominate Jack Summers from the Hornets.

Jack was Hornets keeper last season and has been a great addition ever since he’s probably not the most well known player be having seeing his attitude a maturity grow from last season he has been a good role model to the younger players in the team.

Jack is what I would say I a team player and unfortunately after pulling off some incredible saves in the pre-season tournament winning it for broke his wrist leaving the Hornets without their original keeper for the start of the season.

Even though he is still not able to step foot on the pitch, Jack has been coming down on Saturdays and giving tips and guidance to the stand in keeper for each game showing resilience and real team spirit. I feel Jack is a worthy nomination and the potential to be a great captain as it goes to show that even though he’s had to take a backseat role while he recovers, he still shows up and offers the support and encouragement that a team needs.

Thanks

NOVEMBER WINNER: Max Rochford

NOVEMBER NOMINATIONS:

We would like to nominate Zak Duncan.

He's had a really tough year this year but has continued to come to training every week and also has to leave at 6am for our games on a Saturday. He turns up every week and works hard for his team mates and would be a worthy winner of this award.

Thanks

I would like to nominate Stephen Arasaratnam from Rangers.

Stephen joined SLL halfway through last season having never played football before.

I met Stephen for the first time this season when I took over rangers. I’ve been so impressed with the progress Stephen has made this season playing at left back. Week after week he is improving, winning so many tackles and playing with a smile on his face. He’s one of the unsung heroes of the team and will always stay back when the team is on the attack. Stephen is one of the nicest players I’ve ever coached in my time at SLL and attends every match or training session. If every player at SLL had Stephen’s attitude and personality managing would be an easy task for all of us.

I'd like to nominate Max from the Dynamos, who happens to be my son.

Dynamos for one reason or another ended up with no goalkeeper this season, which at that age group is not a good place to be. I was able to convince/force Max to play in goal and share the responsibilities with another player. Due to the other player missing some matches, Max has ended up playing in goal every game, only getting half a game on pitch some weekends. Max hates playing in goal because he doesn't want to let the team down but he just gets on with it because in his words 'it isn't about him, it's about the team and he wouldn't want to anyone else to go in goal who doesn't want to'.

The Dynamos are sitting 2nd in the league at the halfway point, he's made some mistakes but he's definitely made more saves and I know his team mates appreciate him taking one for the team.

I would like to nominate Belle Hodge from the Hornets.

Belle is probably one of the very few girls that play at Sutton LL especially in the Inters division when games can get physical or challenging, but yet she still manages to hold her own applying pressure closing down attacking players and always playing with a smile on her face. She always works hard in training and gives the boys a run for their money. She may be the only girl in a team full of boys but she doesn’t fail to shine and shows that football isn’t just for the boys. She has a great understanding of the game and continues to grow in confidence. She’s yet to get a goal for the team but has come close.

She always gives 100% and the boys in the team could learn a few things or two from her as her positive attitude shines through. I feel she would be a worthy winner and a great nomination.
